At 9:30, December 1, International College, together with the Xiang’an Campus Management Committee, the college employment training base-Conrad Hotel in Xiamen under Hilton Group, and China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation, launched the Plant Green Dream, Pay Tribute to Centenary Celebration public tree-planting activity on the Xiang’an campus of Xiamen University. 

The activity carried out the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's remarks on labor education, to educate and guide students to deeply understand that labor is the most glorious, noble, great and beautiful, to effectively enhance students’ labor quality, and at the same time presented a gift for centenary celebration of Xiamen University.

He Yuanzan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Xiamen University International College, Professor Tao Tao, Dean of Xiamen University International College, Qian Jin, President of Hilton Greater China and Mongolia, and Xu Guang from China Environmental Protection Foundation, together with 50 Hilton employees and 60 representatives of students and teachers of Xiamen University, participated in the tree planting activity and planted 300 agarwood saplings donated by Hilton to Xiamen University.

Plant Trees, Nurture People and Sow Dreams through Labor Education

At the opening ceremony, Qian Jin, President of Hilton Greater China and Mongolia, on behalf of Hilton, firstly expressed his sincere congratulations to Xiamen University for its upcoming centenary celebration, saying that Hilton has always been actively fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities and uniting all walks of life to jointly cultivate and educate the next generation. He whished that th--e students of International College like the saplings planted today, sharpen their minds, thrive, and become pillars of society at an early day. At the same time, he also expressed his willingness to maintain friendly cooperation with our college, hoping to provide more communication channels and social practice opportunities for students, and to contribute to the cultivation of the next generation.

Dean Tao Tao pointed out that today's tree planting activity is a vivid embodiment of the implementation of General Secretary Xi Jinping's thought of ecological civilization and the practice of labor education in the new era, as well as a tribute to the centenary celebration of Xiamen University. Dean Tao emphasized that the saplings planted today have planted the friendship between Hilton Group and our college, and planted the hope of students’ success. We hope that students will take advantage of the situation and seize the opportunity in the future, not to wait, seize the spirit of the day, resonate with the development of the country and the needs of the times, so as to welcome the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the centenary of Xiamen University with more excellent achievements. Xu Guang from China Environmental Protection Foundation expressed that he was very happy to come to the most beautiful university in China to participate in this public tree-planting activity, and brought 300 Chinese agarwood saplings for the centenary celebration of Xiamen University. He pointed out that China's ecological and environmental protection still has a long way to go and requires the participation of all sectors of society. People’s environmental awareness needs to be awakened from passive environmental protection to active environmental protection. Then, under the witness of Xu Guang, Secretary He Yuanzan presented a gift to Qian Jin, president of Hilton.

President Qian, Dean Tao, Secretary He and Chairman Xu, along with teachers and students of our college and faculty of Hilton, carry saplings, shovel soil, plant , and water trees. The division of labor was clear and orderly. After hard work, the newly planted agarwood saplings stood upright in the wind. While adding greenery to the Xiang’an campus, it also effectively cultivated the students’ working spirit of thrift, struggle, innovation and dedication. Next year, Xiamen University will celebrate its centenary birthday. The planting of trees and greenery today not only contributes to the construction of the campus environment, but also carries the profound connotation that it takes ten years to grow trees and a hundred to grow people. It represents the planting of new hopes for the new century of Xiamen University. Strengthen Communication, Promote School-Enterprise Cooperation to A Higher Level

In order to further deepen the practical cooperation between our college and the Hilton Group, and jointly create a new model of sustainable development practical education. Taking the advantages of the warm atmosphere of the on-site tree planting activity, the guests from both sides moved to the college conference room C303 to have a deep discussion.

At the meeting, Dean Tao firstly expressed a warm welcome to all the guests on behalf of our college, and highlighted the development and achievements of our college in recent years, and also expressed sincere gratitude to Hilton for its long-term concern and support for the development and practice of our college’s education and construction.

Then, Shi Fengxia, head of the hotel management professional group of XMU International College, introduced the major in terms of professional development direction, curriculum features, school-enterprise cooperation, etc. The program, Hospitality Management was founded in 2009 and has delivered a large number of outstanding graduates to the hotel industry in the past 11 years. From the beginning of the program, the effectiveness of education has been placed in an important position. From wine tasting, coffee tasting, to business etiquette and other fashionable and practical special courses, labor practice education has always been a distinctive main line of cultivating specialized talents.

Qian, President of Hilton Greater China and Mongolia, introduced the history of Hilton and its development in China. Hilton is a century-old enterprise with hotels in 108 countries around the world. Since entering the Chinese market in 1988, 10 of its 18 Hilton Hotels Group brands have landed n China. Now under the epidemic, it will also welcome the opening of its 300th hotel in China. Qian proposed the future development direction of our college’s Hospitality Management program from a practical point of view, advocating that undergraduates should strengthen their hands-on ability and participate more in practical activities in enterprises.

Finally, Secretary He expressed his appreciation for Qian’s suggestion, and said that the close and friendly cooperation between Conrad Hotel of Hilton Group and our college has set a model for school-enterprise collaborative education.
