Degree Program:  Masters Degree Progammes in the School of Education

The key awards that this partnership will focus on are:

MSc in Educational Practice and Innovation

MA(Ed) Institutional Management and Leadership

MSc Computer Based Learning and Teaching

Entry requirement:

lApplicants must be proficient in English, with CET 4 or IELTS Band 5.5.

Specific Requirements:

Route A Completion of a six month minimum full-time Programme delivered and validated by XMU which would contain education units and intensive English language. – a pre-BA Education and Training Programme. Students then can progress, on successful completion, to BA Education and Training – one year full-time programme in UOS. Thereafter they could proceed to Masters Degree.

Route B For graduates, in disciplines other than education, a track to Masters level in educational leadership and management is planned. The students would enter a six-month minimum Pre-Masters Foundation programme at the International College of XU, during which time they would gain IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent) and undertake units in educational studies (which may include education philosophy, education policy, teaching and learning, innovation & creativity, and the impact of globalization). These units would reflect some of the content in the BA (Education and Training).

On successful completion of the Pre-Masters Programme, students would be admitted to the one-year full time MA(Ed) in Institutional Management and Leadership.

Route C Primary teachers who have teaching experience, a Diploma (i.e. 3 years Higher Education experience but no Bachelors degree), would seek to enroll for the BA Education and Training – one year full-time programme, followed, if successfully completed, by one year full-time Masters Programme in UOS.  Before enrolment on the BA Education and Training, the students would be required to complete IELTS 6.5/ XU bilingual teachers’ programme.

Route D (i) Teachers who hold Bachelors degrees will complete a bilingual teachers programme (six months) – either that designed by XU International College or the International Bilingual Teacher Qualification (IBTQ validated by SQA). The IBTQ programme requires IELTS 6.5 or equivalent as an entry standard. As practicing teachers who hold both a degree, and the IBTQ / XU programme, which requires IELT 6.5 as an entry qualification, they are therefore eligible for Masters level study in the school of education.

(ii) Teachers from universities across the region have a minimum of a Bachelors degree. They would enrol on an XU bi-lingual programme running during the summer vacation (July – September).
