Fu Yizhen, a student of 2018 hospitality management major in the preparatory, graduate and master's program of Xiamen University International College, enjoys listening to music, watching dramas, mastering English, Filipino and other languages, and can communicate fluently. With rich experience in social welfare practice, serious work and high self-requirements, she was recommended as the ideal ambassador of SQA. At present, she has been admitted to the University of Sunderland and other institutions in the UK.

Why Choose International College?

When I was in high school, I often heard teachers and senior students mention Xiamen University. In addition, I was studying in Xiamen. The high school I studied is very close to Xiamen University. I often sneaked into the campus of Xiamen University to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the campus. I learned that the International College has hospitality management program, which will arrange internship in relevant hotels for students to learn about the operation of the hotel industry in advance. I am very interested. Not only can I learn my favorite practical majors, but I can also go abroad. There are many opportunities for studying abroad, which are safe and secure. Therefore, I firmly choose to study at the International College.

Advantages and Features of International College

International College has a complete teaching system, using English textbooks, examinations and tutoring are strictly implemented in accordance with the system standards set by the SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority). In the classroom, the teachers use both Chinese and English to teach. In a free and rigorous classroom atmosphere, we can better understand and adapt to foreign teaching models.

Coming to the International College, I think it is worth mentioning the internship experience in hospitality management program. During the internship, I learned a lot of relevant knowledge about the hospitality industry, such as operating procedures, job arrangements, and various banquet planning and preparations. Through internship, you can not only deepen the relationship between students, but also combine the knowledge and practice we learned in class to gain a deeper understanding of the hospitality management industry.

SQA "Ideal Ambassador"

I am very excited and honored to be recommended as an "Ideal ambassador" for SQA. I think this is due to the solid professional knowledge and various practical experience, and the good study habits. In daily class, I paid great attention to taking notes, wrote important things in a notepad or calendar, regularly set out daily tasks for myself, and insisted on completing them every day. I also develop good study habits, not only to keep a regular life and a proper rhythm, but also to complete various study tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

In addition, I think daily accumulation is also very important for learning. For example, when preparing for the IELTS test, I think that I should not rely solely on doing more exercise but to fully master the techniques of answering questions, read and analyze more related articles to understand the author’s writing style and the views that he or she wants to express, and watch more movies and videos to practice fluency and improve the ability to understand different accents and tones, so that it is no longer difficult to pass the IELTS exam by speaking more and practicing more.

Finally, I am very grateful to the International College for giving me a platform to show myself, and also very grateful to the teachers for their trust and affirmation. With your expectations, I will continue to work hard to become a better myself.

Rich Social Welfare Practice Activities

When I was in high school, I liked participating in social welfare practice activities and actively signed up to be a volunteer in a rural orphanage in the Philippines. Through communication and games with children, I felt the joy of sharing and giving, and learned to respect each precious life.

After I came to International College, whenever I had the opportunity to participate in social welfare practice activities, I enthusiastically signed up. I was impressed by participating in the charity tree-planting activity of "Plant Green Dreams, Pay Tribute to Centennial Celebration of Xiamen University" jointly organized by the college in cooperation with Xiang'an Campus Management Committee and Xiamen Conrad Hotel under Hilton Group. Through the tree-planting labor experience, I not only exercised my body and experienced the joy of labor, but also felt the difficulty of tree maintenance. I was full of joy when I watched the tree saplings I planted stand upright. It was a wonderful feeling to see the trees planted by myself growing up when I returned to campus several years after graduation." It takes ten years to grow trees, but a hundred to cultivate people." These charity activities experience are precious treasure and good memory that shine in my life. In the future, I will continue to do it and give more love.

A Message for the Teachers and Younger Schoolmates

I am very grateful to the teachers of International College for giving me a lot of help and guidance during my study. I am especially grateful to Ms. Shi, Ms. Gong, and Ms. Lai, the teachers of hospitality management program, for their patience in answering my questions before and after class. I am also very grateful to my classmates for bringing me many happy time and wonderful university memory.

For the younger students who are about to write GU1 and GU2, I want to tell you that you must take the assessment of these two courses seriously. Because they are related to important aspects such as the admission standards of the colleges and universities, you will apply for in the future. Therefore, whether it is in the form of reports or exams, although the process requires a lot of hardship and challenges, as long as you persist, you will be able to pass it smoothly. The bright future is worth all your hard work, come on!
